Australian author Richard Flanagan has been named the 2014 winner of the Man Booker Prize for Fiction. Flanagan won for his novel, The Narrow Road to the Deep North, a WWII story about a surgeon held captive in a Japanese prisoner of war camp. Flanagan's inspiration for the novel was his father, a survivor of the Burma Death Railway.
